CUNY’s Carousel Clubs video series does a wonderful job in showing the opportunities available for students to join clubs and societies, whilst also celebrating diversity and belonging at the University. For example, joining the Skate Club isn’t just a chance to get on your board. It’s also a chance to meet people from different courses and backgrounds, away from the formality of the classroom. By sharing a number of these stories, CUNY ultimately serve up a strong feeling of fitting-in.

Several groups are already featured, and surely CUNY will keep building this engaging resource. By leading out with these wonderfully colourful, friendly, 25 second films early in the admissions process, they are helping students connect early in the process. Surely more universities could do this. Especially if they can foster a collaboration with their SUs. Clubs are often treated as extras. Here, they’re a reason to choose. And a reminder that university is much more than just a course.
